The UK-Zimbabwe Business EXPO is a vibrant event that brings together Zimbabweans in the diaspora and local businesses to network, collaborate, and celebrate achievements. It features panel discussions, business showcases, and awards that recognise outstanding contributions to various industries.
At Care Quality Support, we are proud to announce a significant achievement by our Managing Director, Godfrey Mushandu, who participated in a panel discussion at the recent UK-Zimbabwe Business EXPO, organised by the Zimbabweans in the Diaspora Organisation. This event provided a platform for vital dialogue and collaboration, showcasing the potential for growth and innovation between Zimbabwe and the UK.
A Moment of Honour
Godfrey Mushandu had the honour of sharing insights alongside distinguished panel members, including Dr Brighton Chireka from Premier Primary Care, David Smith of the British African Business Alliance Ltd, Ruth K. Dube from Fernley Hill Consultancy, and Kennedy Mwedziwendira of the Zim-UK Business Chamber. Together, they explored the challenges and opportunities facing businesses and communities in both nations.
In his remarks, Godfrey expressed the enlightening experience of networking and the wealth of new ideas and associations that emerged during the discussions. He emphasised the importance of representing the views of Health and Social Care Providers in the UK, highlighting how their experiences can forge mutually beneficial links between the Diaspora community and Zimbabwe.
Recognising Excellence
In addition to his participation in the panel, we are thrilled to share that Godfrey Mushandu was awarded the Male Entrepreneur of the Year. Godfrey’s dedication, innovative approach, and continuous support for the community and business development made him a standout choice for this prestigious award.
Winning this award is a testament to his relentless drive, visionary leadership, and the remarkable strides our company continues to make in the UK-Zimbabwe business space. We are immensely proud to have such a dynamic leader guiding us towards new heights.
This accolade not only recognises his individual dedication and hard work but also an acknowledgment of the incredible work the entire team has put in to make the business thrive.
As Godfrey stated, “The market is big for everyone. The more we work together, the better.” This sentiment reflects our commitment to Care Quality Support to foster partnerships that enhance the quality of healthcare services and support for communities both in the UK and Zimbabwe.
Engage with Attendees
We also had the privilege to have an exhibition stand to exhibit our services. Our exhibition stand attracted considerable attention, with numerous attendees expressing interest in our services. One of our representatives (Wilson Mathe) remarked on the busy atmosphere, noting, “I had to go round all the tables to introduce our services and explain how they can benefit by integrating their offerings into our groups.”
The most common inquiries centred around CQC regulation and supported living, with many attendees also showing interest in tender writing. While there was less engagement regarding GMT networks, the overall response was encouraging.
We had the opportunity to connect with individuals who were both familiar and unfamiliar with our company. For those new to our services, our explanations were met with interest and enthusiasm. We are looking forward to following up with several potential clients who expressed a keen interest in what we offer.
In addition to our discussions about our core services, we also took the opportunity to promote our upcoming Meet and Greet Christmas Gala. This event promises to be a fantastic occasion for further networking and fostering community spirit.
As we reflect on this successful day, we are grateful to everyone who visited our stand and engaged with our team. Your interest in our services is invaluable, and we are eager to continue building relationships that will contribute positively to the health and social care sector.
Acknowledging Diaspora Contributions (From the Zimbabwean Government)
The Zimbabwean Government has recognised the significant contributions of the diaspora community, particularly through remittances, which rose by 13% to $1.8 billion in the past year, up from $1.6 billion in 2022. During the expo, Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, Mr. Willard Manungo, reiterated President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s call for the diaspora to invest in productive sectors and capital markets, moving beyond remittances to secure sustainable incomes for their families back home.
Mr Manungo articulated the mantra “Nyika Inovakwa neVene Vayo” (or “ilizwe Lakhiwa Ngabanikazi Balo”), reflecting the belief that a nation is built by its people. He emphasised the government’s commitment to providing a supportive policy and legal framework that empowers the diaspora to contribute actively to the nation’s economic development.
Investment Opportunities
Mr. Manungo outlined promising sectors for diaspora investment, including real estate, agriculture, manufacturing, and tourism. He noted that the Zimbabwean real estate market is recovering, with increasing demand for residential and commercial properties. Diaspora investors are encouraged to explore opportunities in real estate investment trusts (REITs) and development projects.
The excitement surrounding the expo was palpable. ZIDO Chief Executive Officer, Blessed Kapesa, expressed gratitude to the Zimbabwean community in the UK for their participation. He highlighted that, for the first time, five distinguished ministers were present, presenting unparalleled investment opportunities.
